Roxaboxen

SarahKate's Notes:

This book sweeps you up in the imagination of children who spend their summer building a town, Roxaboxen, out of rocks and bits of desert glass. This book is truly a favorite of my (then) 7 yo, and has been for years.

Marian called it Roxaboxen. (She always knew the name of everything.) There across the road, it looked like any rocky hill -- nothing but sand and rocks, some old wooden boxes, cactus and greasewood and thorny ocotillo -- but it was a special place: a sparkling world of jeweled homes, streets edged with the whitest stones, and two ice cream shops.

The Milly-Molly-Mandy Storybook

SarahKate's Notes:

Published in 1925 these stories of 7 year old Milly-Molly-Mandy are charming and sweet. We loved reading about how she lives in a tiny village her travels through it. At one point she visits the general store and the woman who runs it has an important errand and actually leaves Milly-Molly-Mandy at the front counter to take care of the store. As soon as we finished the girls (then 5 & 8) asked to hear it again. This is the first in the series and we are excited to read more.
