Between Parent and Child: New Solutions to Old Problems

SarahKate's Notes:

This book was a best seller for 60 weeks in the 60s. The author, Dr. Haim Ginott, lead groups for parents and out of that came my personal favorite book, How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk. When I read Ginott's book, it re-awakened my empathy for my children which felt wonderful. The 2nd book brings it all together and is easier to get it, to see the steps.

How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk

SarahKate's Notes:

This is my parenting 'bible', I love this book and have referred to it often throughout my child-caring-years. It covers helping kids deal with their feelings (empathy!), engaging cooperation, alternatives to punishment, praise and much more. It is incredibly readable. If you only have time to read one parenting book - this is the one!

The Well-Trained Mind

SarahKate's Notes:

This book outlines the "classical" approach to homeschooling. We only use a few concepts from this book, but it's very inspiring just the same.
